The Base Decides The Finish
Not the color, not the clear coat. Wrong primer under a good paint job and you're chasing lifting, fisheyes, and adhesion failures inside a year. Right primer, and the topcoat has a fair chance to do its job. Every mix on this page ships with the specs printed on the can. Match the hardener to the primer, respect the induction time, and follow the sanding schedule. That's the whole discipline.
RP-223 Epoxy Primer
The base for bare metal restoration and corrosion-prone panels. Sprays direct to bare steel, aluminum, galvanized, and fiberglass with the deepest bite in the line.

RP-223 DTM Primer/Sealer
The daily driver in four colors, so you can tint under the topcoat and save a basecoat pull. Sprays over sanded OEM, refinish paint, bare steel, aluminum, and fiberglass.

The last coat before color. Evens the substrate, locks color holdout, cuts how many basecoats you need to hit full opacity.

RP-223-100 Adhesion Promoter

If You Don't See Yours, Ask Us
Substrate and speed. Epoxy gives the deepest bite on bare metal, aluminum, and corrosion-prone panels, but needs a 30-minute induction. DTM works faster over sanded OEM or refinish paint, mixes 4:1, and doubles as a sealer at 4:1:2. Restoration leans epoxy. Collision and fast turnarounds lean DTM.
Only if the factory paint is fully cured, tightly adhered, and sanded to 320-400 grit. Even then, a coat of DTM or the RP-308 sealer evens shade shifts and improves how the basecoat pulls. If there's rust, delamination, or filler on the panel, prime. Skipping is the shortcut that costs the whole panel.
On plastic bumpers, chrome, aluminum, and factory-slick surfaces where paint won't grip on its own. One coat of the RP-223-100 adhesion promoter, then spray epoxy, DTM, or basecoat straight after. Not needed on bare steel or already-sanded refinish work. Also you can
Five days without sanding. Past that, scuff with 400-600 grit before topcoat or adhesion drops. Inside the window, wipe, tack, spray. If the panel sat in a dusty shop for a week, treat it like it's out of window regardless of the clock.
RH-223-45 pairs with the RP-223 DTM at 4:1. RH-40 pairs with the RP-223 automotive epoxy primer at 1:1. RH-308 pairs with the RP-308 sealer at 4:1. Match the hardener to the primer. Substituting is the fastest way to blow a mix ratio.
Depends on what you sprayed. DTM at 4:1:2 is a non-sanding sealer; spray color right after flash. Straight DTM at 4:1 or 4:1:1 needs a block sand at 400-600 grit. Epoxy inside the 5-day window can go direct to color. Outside the window, scuff and clean before spraying.
