The Best Primer for Your Automotive Paint

2K primer system, formulated in Spain to the same standard European OEM refinish shops spec. Same resin technology. Same solid percentage. Same corrosion resistance, but at 40% less cost. Epoxy that bites into bare metal and starves corrosion. DTM (direct-to-metal) urethane that fills, builds, and sands like a body shop primer.

RP-223 DTM Primer/Sealer

The 2K primer that pulls three jobs from one can: straight primer, sanding build coat, or non-sanding sealer. Change the mix ratio, change the role. Four colors so you can tint under the topcoat and save a basecoat pull.

  • 4:1 with RH-223-45 hardener as straight primer
  • 4:1:1 with 380 series reducer for a traditional sanding build
  • 4:1:2 as a non-sanding sealer
  • Up to 9 mils in three coats
  • Gray, White, Black, Bright Red

RP-223 Epoxy Primer

Bare metal, restoration builds, and panels fighting corrosion. The 1:1 chemistry sinks into the substrate deeper than any DTM will, and cures with zero shrinkage so filler and block work sit flat under the color.

  • 1:1 mix with RH-40 epoxy hardener
  • 30-minute induction after mixing
  • 5-day recoat window without sanding
  • Iso-free, lead and chromate free, zero shrinkage
  • Gray, Black, White. Quart and 2-gallon kits.

Same job as the $400-800+ gallon at the jobber.

RH-223-45 Primer Hardener

The hardener that runs the RP-223 DTM at 4:1. Sold separately because the DTM ships as a kit with hardener included, and this liter is the top-up for shops going through hardener faster than primer or painters mixing smaller batches.

  • Liter
  • Pairs only with RP-223-10/20/30/40 DTM primer
  • Not interchangeable with RH-40 epoxy hardener
  • Not interchangeable with RH-308 sealer hardener

FAQs

If You Don't See Yours, Ask Us

Depends on substrate. Bare metal, restoration, corrosion → RP-223 epoxy. Sanded OEM, refinish, collision, fast turnaround → RP-223 DTM. Both are 2K European chemistries that match premium refinish-grade automotive primer at a lower price point.

Yes, in sequence. Epoxy over bare metal for corrosion protection and bite. DTM at 4:1:1 as the sanding build coat once the panel needs filler and block work. Either one as sealer before basecoat. This is the standard restoration stack for a full down-to-metal build.

The DTM kit ships with RH-223-45 hardener included. The liter on this page is a top-up for shops burning hardener faster than primer, or painters mixing smaller batches. Order it when you're between kits, not on top of your first order.

Epoxy holds a 5-day recoat window without sanding. Past that, scuff and go. DTM has no fixed window: once cured, scuff at 400-600 grit and spray whenever the shop schedule allows.

Depends what you sprayed. DTM at 4:1:2 is non-sanding; spray color after flash. DTM at 4:1 or 4:1:1 needs a 400-600 grit block sand. Epoxy inside the 5-day window goes direct to color.

Epoxy: bare steel, aluminum, galvanized, fiberglass, cured filler.

DTM: sanded OEM, refinish paint, bare steel, aluminum, fiberglass.

Neither goes on plastic or chrome without an adhesion promoter first.
